Tests run entirely on your device
Hardware Tester's tools use standard web APIs, such as camera and microphone access, keyboard and pointer events, the Gamepad API and screen information, that run inside your browser. The camera image, microphone audio, key presses, clicks and controller input are processed locally and in real time. They are never uploaded, stored, or transmitted to our servers, because there is no server-side processing at all: the site is delivered as static files.
Permissions
Some tests ask your browser for permission to use a device (for example your camera or microphone). Granting permission lets the test read that device within your browser only; it does not give us access to anything. You can revoke permission at any time from your browser's site settings, and closing the tab ends all access immediately.
Local storage
We store a single small preference in your browser's local storage (your light/dark theme choice) so the site remembers it on your next visit. It stays on your device and contains no personal information.
Analytics and advertising
We may use privacy-respecting analytics to understand which tests are used and how the site performs, and we may display ads from third-party networks (such as Google AdSense) to keep the site free. These services may set their own cookies and collect standard technical information such as your approximate location, device and browser, subject to their own privacy policies. Any such data relates to site usage. It never includes the contents of a hardware test. Where required, you will be asked for consent, and you can use browser or ad-network controls to opt out.
Children's privacy
Hardware Tester is a general-audience utility and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
